19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev won his initial title for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a difficult period, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-term mentor Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

It is his first title following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from that period of that year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a championship is particularly special," said tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had caused some to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.

He saved 4 initial break points in a tight deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
