Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
